Within the Tikal National Park, there are plenty of monkeys, coatis, and even some jaguars. But there aren't too many hotels. Just a short walk from the ruins, however, there are a few delightful places to stay:

El Chiclero is a small hotel and restaurant just outside of the Uaxactun mayan ruins. Isolated and tranquil, this area doesn't have much, but what it does have is spectacular: a set of stunning ruins that are rarely visited. If you venture out to Uaxactun, the Chiclero is one of the only establishments with food, drink, and lodging, so it's worth a try if you need to stay near the ruins. CONTACT: Aldea Uaxactun Tel: |

Located in the Tikal National Park, and closer to the ruins than many hotels in the Petén, the Jaguar Inn is an economical choice in a great location. The entrance to the hotel is dominated by the traditional, thatched roofed restaurant building and its outdoor tables. The bungalows are set off discreetly to one side, surrounded by lush tropical jungle. Here you can rent a hammock with mosquito net and locker, or sleep in the dorm for $3.25 and $5 respectively. www.jaguartikal.com CONTACT: Parque Nacional Tikal Tel: (502) 7926-0002 / (502) 7926-2413 |
