San Pedro La Laguna
San Pedro La Laguna offers a more bohemian experience on Lake Atitlan. A small Mayan town recently inundated with young, bargain-seeking tourists, the town has a distinctly different feel than Panajachel, or even nearby San Marcos. Plenty of hotels and great restaurants await visitors, and many tourists choose to stay for weeks or months, taking language classes at one of San Pedro's several Spanish schools. The San Pedro volcanoes is also omnipresent, looming over the town and offering great hiking and horseback riding. Overall, San Pedro offers a younger, cheaper, and more bohemian experience on the Lake than the bustling Panajachel or the sleepy, spa-filled San Marcos. Many tourists prefer San Pedro, however, so it's certainly worth a visit.
